Big BIG tune here, people. Probably a little special to Torontonians. Speaker volume up. You’ll thank me later.
Expect a remix from Bombaman in the neeeeear.

I just finished watching this really good documentary called **’The Origin of Hip Hop‘. It’s a great look at the culture from start to finish (it breaches 1998, around the time it was produced). What struck me was its storybook time line. I can say I have a decent familiarity with Hip Hop and the artists that have come and gone over the years. But the doc really manages to capture key moments in time and tie them together to create a confident history behind the music.
The whole thing sort of end’s abruptly, hot off the death of Biggie and TuPac. Really, I just have a tendency towards the sentimental. The raw energy that still emanates from those who were there in the beginning is electric. Mele Mel is so crass. Fab Five Freddy’s recount of Blondie’s ‘Rapture’ is fantastic. He’s an amazing storyteller. No surprise there, I guess. Ice-T is hilarious, especially when he’s talking about Charlton Heston. All in all pretty good. Next, I’ll check out Style Wars.

The video was taken down. I tried to find a torrent, but no luck. Hope you caught it while it lasted!
The Clothing Show was kind of sucky this season. Between the PVC and re-worked vintage, it was hard to find something worth buying. I found some earrings and a vintage purse.
$25 well spent.

New job update:
They really like cake. So far it’s been 2 weeks and I’ve had cake twice. It’s danger. It really is. To boot, I sit near where the cake rests. They buy these massive cakes to commemorate something that apparently deserves cake and of course it’s too much because we’re about 10 people, so the cake just sits there all day, layers of icing with sometimes REAL whipped cream, just calling my name, emanating a delicious smell until I break down 5 minutes before the end of my day and shove some in my face (for at least the second time). That’s right. My cake face. Gimme gimme mo’.
For the last subtrac jam, brandon (sek) was telling me about a brilliant idea that he and matt carl came up with in that they would re-name the typical ‘dubstep dance’ to ‘dubstep danza’. They would provide everyone with paper face cut outs of Danza’s face and we all would get down.
In my mind that would be proceeded by us all breaking into song with Elton’s John’s ‘Tiny Dancer’. So on that note, a feel good movie clip…

Circa is finally here.
After over a year of harry canary, the founder, creator and instigator behind some of New York’s most memorable and controversial clublife is BACK.
Peter Gatien is putting Toronto on the map. Be prepared.
His new venture is located in the middle of clubland: the notoriously vomit inducing 905 littered greesy testosterone driven area where disposable clubs settle to appease the intoxicated regulars for a moment before getting recycled into something of the same matter.
For this alone, Circa is sure to stand out. I won’t go into to details because its littered all over the net in architechtural and legal description.
What’s important here is that…well…no one really knows yet. But we soon find out.

This Saturday marks Toronto’s second Nuit Blanche. An all night exibition where artists make the city their palette.
The city is divided into 3 zones all with leading themes.
Zone C is the ’supernatural city’, where Craig Walsh is going to create an illusion of a fish tank in Queen West’s Green Hall front window all done with video projection.
The theme song for the night is officially Salt ‘n’ Pepa’s ‘Break of Dawn’. So theres really nothing else to say other than:
Keep keep it on ’till the break of dawn
Boom bam slam keep keep it on!
H&M is apparently bat-shit crazy during designer releases. The staff wants to kill you and the ladies aren’t afraid to elbow you sans apologies. I’ll take my chances.
Here’s a sneak peak in sketch form of the Roberto Cavalli line, expected to drop November 8, 2007 in 200 selected stores. I hope that includes Toronto.
